The Chambers – Tallapoosa – Coosa Community Action Committee, Inc. (CTC/CAC) is a locally operated, private, non profit corporation created to mobilize human and financial resources in combating poverty in the immediate areas. The CTC/CAC puts local people to work for the community. Realizing that the cause of poverty can vary with each region, the staff seeks new and effective approaches to assist clients in becoming self-sufficient.

The CTC/CAC offers many programs. We hire local personnel as long as they meet the requirements established by committee guidelines. This includes teachers, assist teachers, carpenters, social workers, outreach workers, administrators and many others required to participate in a concentrated effort to stamp out poverty.

The CTC/CAC organization began operation in 1966 with a grant of $32,000.00. Today CTC/CAC is responsible for an estimated 5 million dollar impact to the local economy annually.

Funding in support of CTC/CAC is provided through:

Headed by Executive Director, David Boleware, the agency is governed by a Board of Directors with representation from three (3) counties. It is composed of representatives of the poor and private interests groups and with area business representatives.

Approximately 120 employees of CTC/CAC represent the programs which were designed to meet the specific problems in the three counties it serves.

Head Start:

Provides a classroom environment for approximately 528 preschoolers in this area. It provides underprivileged and disabled children of pre-school age with the beginning of an education, with nutrition and with medical/dental services. Social Services and Parent Involvement are companion services of the Head Start Program.

Family Daycare:

The FDC Program reimburses private day care home providers for nutritious meals and snacks served to children for whom they provide day care. The Family Daycare has daycare homes in the three (3) counties.

Weatherization:

This program is designed to reduce energy loss by making providing minor home repairs and energy saving improvements.

Alabama Charitable Trust Fund:

A program sponsored by Alabama Power Company to assist low income families in paying their energy bill and to perform some types of home weatherization.

Emergency Services:

Funds are allocated under this program under emergency situations for rent, medical prescriptions, food, homeless individuals / families.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance or LIHEAP:

The LIHEAP program is designed to assist low income households in the cost of heating their homes in the winter and for clients with special needs – cooling of homes in the summer.
